About James

James is currently the Managing Partner of JJK Advisory. JJKA offers fiduciary services via onshore advisory board positions to US trade or businesses and directorships to Cayman based alternative asset management funds. From a board perspective, James and the JJKA team deliver strategic consultancy and hands on project management for emerging managers and operational, growth, and balance sheet liquidity risk management for established managers.

James has over 25 years of experience in the financial services and alternative asset management industry. His management company operating experience covers a wide range of fund strategies including event driven credit and equity, long/short equity, mortgage credit and structured products, volatility and statistical arbitrage, and rates and currency relative value trading.

Prior to forming JJK Advisory in 2018, Jim served as Chief Financial Officer and Chief Compliance Officer of Greenbriar Asset Management. James and the Greenbriar team built the credit and equity hedge fund manager’s operating and control infrastructure from scratch in 2014. Jim managed the operational due diligence process and served as Chairman of the Board of Greenbriar’s Cayman based investment management funds.

Before Greenbriar, James served as the Treasurer and Head of Portfolio Accounting for Shelter Growth Capital Partners, a mortgage conduit and real estate asset manager. Prior to Shelter Growth, James was a proprietary trader for the PrinceRidge Group at which he traded equities and interest rate products. Before that, James joined the D.E. Shaw Group where he was first a balance sheet liquidity risk manager within the firm’s treasury team. He then helped DE Shaw start a new financial services business in Mumbai, India serving as that firm’s Chief Financial Officer. 

Prior to his time at D.E. Shaw, Jim was the CFO, Treasurer, and/or Director of Operations at several multi strategy start-up hedge funds including Round Table Investment Management Company in Charlotte, NC, Dillon Read Capital Management in New York, and Sagamore Hill Capital Management in Greenwich, CT. Jim started his alternative asset management career serving four years as Senior Vice President in charge of financing all credit and equity related trading strategies at Citadel Investment Group in Chicago.

Jim holds a BA in Finance from the University of Illinois and an MS in Accountancy from the University of Phoenix.  He is a CFA Charterholder and a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) licensed in the State of Illinois. James is also a Cayman Islands Monetary Authority registered Mutual Fund Director.
